This past September, you might remember our Joyous Night At The Movies event in Toronto where Joyous Health partnered with The Superfood Chain to preview this incredible documentary! I have been working with the team at Fathom Film Group (who are the people responsible for bringing The Superfood Chain documentary to life) for the past year because I strongly believe the message they are sharing needs to get out to the masses.

It's why we brought Ann Shinn, the filmmaker behind The Superfood Documentary, to talk more about this on the Joyous Health podcast today, and more specifically, the impact that our superfood shopping habits have on the world and people around us.

Ann is an award-winning Director and Producer known for beautiful, compelling documentary films, series, and innovative interactive projects. Her films and series have aired on CBC, TVO, HBO, ABC, CBC The Documentary Channel, Discovery Channel, HGTV, History Channel, SLICE.

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

  • How Ann Shinn paved her way in the filmmaking industry
  • The challenge in putting personal biases aside as a filmmaker
  • The art of letting the truth of a story unfold naturally in a documentary
  • What inspired The Superfood Chain documentary
  • Do you know where your superfoods actually come from?
  • How the nutritional content of superfoods vary depending on where they're sourced from
  • The impact on farmer's to have a new superfood pop up every week
  • Ann's journey of traveling with her daughters to Bolivia to learn about superfoods
  • The beauty of using the natural and locally sourced superfoods from where you live
  • How to be mindful and shop for food sustainably
  • Why you should try to buy smaller fish
  • The one thing Ann hopes for people to get out of The Superfood Chain

  • Where you can watch The Superfood Chain
